JOB DESCRIPTION
The Massachusetts Tobacco Control Program (MTCP) requires the assistance of underaged participants to attempt the purchase of tobacco products from local tobacco retailers. The goal of the program is to ensure tobacco retailers are complying with Federal laws and regulations that prevent them from selling tobacco products to minors. This will be a part-time, 2-week long position beginning in early July. 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Buyer must be between 18 – 20 yrs. and 10 months of age • Buyer must be willing and able to ask for tobacco products • Buyer must be willing and able to provide accurate descriptions of clerks who sell tobacco Page 2 • Buyer must be willing and able to testify in an administrative office setting if necessary (enforcement use only).
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works as Underage Purchaser.
  • Always supervised and monitored by a MTCP Adult Supervisor & Inspector (as needed) during their work shift.
  • Driven to and from the tobacco retailer locations by the MTCP Adult Supervisor.
  • Attempt to purchase a tobacco product per the procedures provided within their training and the instructions provided by the FDA Commissioned Inspector.
  • After the purchase attempt, will leave the tobacco retailer with or without a purchased item.
  • Purchased items and change will be immediately turned over to the Adult Supervisor. Report what happened in the store to the Adult Supervisor for documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Receive MTCP training prior to conducting any purchase attempts.
