JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Sociology in the Shaheen College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Indianapolis is seeking an Associate Adjunct in Sociology beginning in August 2022, for a nine-month faculty position with possible renewal. The ability to teach primarily during the day is required. The Associate Adjunct will teach 15 to 21 hours of Sociology courses per year such as Principles of Sociology, Social Problems, and other courses as needed. A separate contract for summer teaching is possible, though not guaranteed.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design courses and syllabi that conform to University and Department requirements and expectations
  • Plan lessons
  • Grade assignments, essays, etc.
  • Respond to student needs in person or electronically
  • Keep up with current teaching best practices
  • Supporting student success and retention
QUALIFICATIONS

  • M.A. in Sociology or related field required, ABD or PhD preferred
  • Ability to teach during the day is required
  • A record of successful teaching or having completed a teaching practicum preferred
  • Commitment to supporting all students, including first-generation and historically marginalized students preferred
  • An interest in service-learning preferred
