D.L. Evans Bank was founded in Albion, Idaho in September 1904. Over time, the organization has expanded tremendously but throughout these changes, D.L. Evans Bank has maintained its “hometown community bank” spirit. Today, the bank is headquartered in Burley, Idaho, has over $1.2 billion in assets, and has 27 full-service branches and seven mortgage lending offices across southern Idaho. Three generations of the Evans family participate in the bank’s daily operations and serve on the board of directors.
The Burden of Paper-Based Hiring Processes
Until recently, D.L. Evans Bank used paper job applications across all its branches. This manual process was labor intensive and expensive. Employees spent time copying and scanning documents. In addition, office space had to be dedicated to record retention, since the bank must keep three years’ worth of applications to comply with affirmative action requirements.

Since applications contain sensitive information, all D.L. Evans Bank offices had to store the documents securely at Corporate. “The old manual hiring process was cumbersome and costly,” said Audra Lloyd, Vice President and HR Manager.
Automating Applicant Tracking with Fast and Pain Free Implementation
Lloyd realized that it was time to move D.L. Evans Bank’s hiring processes from paper into the digital world. She created a proposal and obtained buy-in from the bank’s leadership team. The next step was evaluating different applicant tracking vendors. Lloyd mentioned, “We are a ‘big little bank.’ We have multiple locations, but each is fairly small, most with only six to 12 people. From an HR perspective, however, we have numerous hiring managers.” Given the nature of the bank’s organization, she knew that she needed a solution that would be easy and intuitive for branch managers to use.
D.L. Evans Bank considered several applicant tracking systems. However, Hyrell best met the company’s unique requirements. Additionally, the level of support offered by Hyrell truly set it apart from the competition. Lloyd praised, “Hyrell’s willingness to help and accept suggestions, which is pretty rare these days among vendors.” After D.L. Evans Bank decided to move forward with Hyrell, the implementation was fast and pain free. “I expected it to be harder and scheduled more time than was actually needed,” said Lloyd.
Less Work, Greater Transparency, and More Diverse Candidates
Hyrell has eliminated D.L. Evans Bank’s cumbersome paper processes. Now, there is greater transparency in the hiring process and it’s easier for hiring managers to collaborate with Human Resources. “I can look at an application online and discuss it by phone with a manager in another location. We both see the same information, but there’s no need to copy or scan documents,” she said. It’s also easy for Lloyd to review rejected applications and call hiring managers with any questions. On the candidate side, the days of phone tag are over. The interview scheduling and messaging tools in Hyrell make it simple to communicate with applicants.
In addition to the time savings, Hyrell has also increased the number of candidates that apply for jobs at D.L. Evans Bank. Because open positions are posted to national online job boards, the bank now receives applications from all over the United States. “For some positions, our applicant traffic has tripled and we are getting more diverse candidates who are interested in relocating to Idaho,” noted Lloyd.
The Bottom Line
Thanks to Hyrell, both HR and the hiring managers at D.L. Evans Bank have more time to devote to bank operations. Lloyd summarized, “In an organization like ours, branch managers want to simplify their lives, not move from a cumbersome paper-based hiring process to a cumbersome online hiring process. I’d recommend Hyrell to other financial services companies – our hiring managers love that we’ve stopped the paper shuffling and manual data entry. It’s easy to see the savings delivered by Hyrell.”
